The Government of Guanajuato announced that during 2014, 377 million pesos ($28 million) will be invested in the city of San Miguel de Allende to spur social and economic development.
Governor Miguel Márquez Márquez declared that San Miguel de Allende is becoming a prime example of the evolution taking place within the state. In view of its strong economy and healthy tourism industry, San Miguel has positioned itself as one of the state’s pivotal tourist destinations.
The needs of locals will also be addressed, ensuring an overall better quality of life for families living in San Miguel. In addition of other projects that are planned for the municipality, the plan includes the creation of public works, projects and programs for the development of indigenous communities, focusing on improved connectivity, education, tourism and infrastructure.
Other San Miguel projects include improvements to the San Miguel de Allende-Guanajuato highway, the modernization of the San Miguel de Allende-Celaya highway, the re-paving of the state highway network and the development of industrial parks. They also target greater infrastructural support for indigenous communities, upgrades to SABES schools (Guanajuato’s Advanced System for Secondary and Higher Education), modern infrastructure to increase San Miguel’s competitive edge in tourism and an overall strengthening of the historic city center’s image.
Finally, measures will be taken to preserve the Cañada de la Virgen archeological site, to tighten watershed management, to revamp sporting facilities and to rehabilitate the city’s potable water services in urban and rural areas.
